The first of two coastal storms struck southernmost Vermont and central and southern New Hampshire with a foot of snow in Readsboro and Vernon, VT on this date in 1986. Winds gusted to 50 mph near the Massachusetts border, and thunderstorms were reported near Mt. Monadnock in New Hampshire where local snowfall amounts were said to be near 20 inches. The second storm turned to rain south, while northern mountains received 12 to 18 inches.
