Today is the traditional date for Memorial Day, or as it was known in the 1800s – Decoration Day. Decoration Day of 1884 saw one of the latest episodes of measurable snow on record. Both Randolph and Windsor reported frosts each morning from the 28th to the 30th, with snow mentioned in Randolph on the flowers that decorated the soldiers’ graves. Lunenburg actually measured 2 inches of snow with a temperature of 35 degrees.
