Rain began falling on this date in 1996, and would continue for about 30 hours as a coastal storm tapped moisture from Hurricane Lily and dumped tremendous rains over the region. 2 to 4 inches was common through most of Vermont, but heavier amounts were typical in New Hampshire, causing numerous roads and bridges to washout. 6 inches of rain was measured in Grafton, NH, and 13 inches near the coast in Greenland, NH.
