The third in a series of early season snowfalls took place on this date in 1836, bringing snow all the way down into the valleys after the first two just dusted the mountains. Residents of Hanover, NH awoke to three inches of snow, and still snowing. By the time it turned to rain it added up to 5 inches. Bennington, VT had a very similar experience with 4 to 6 inches, giving every appearance of winter according to Benjamin Harding’s diary.
