One of my favorite weather sayings comes along at this time each year. “If ice in November will bear a duck, nothing comes after but sleet and muck”, meaning that cold weather this early in the season will be balanced by warmer weather during the heart of winter. There was plenty of ice on this date in 1991, when the mercury fell to 6 degrees in West Burke, VT and a bitter 4 degrees in First Connecticut Lake, NH.
