Thirteen years ago, in 2011, a series of moisture-laden thunderstorms tracking northeast along the Rt. 2 corridor from Barre northeast to St. Johnsbury, unleashed 4 to 7 inches of rain in six hours, resulting in severe flash flooding. Portions of Rt. 2 and Rt. 5, as well as hundreds of back roads, were washed out, stranding some people for several days. Severe weather also produced tennis ball-sized hail in South Duxbury, VT, and damaging winds near Johnson, VT.
