Waters were just starting to recede on this date in 1952 after heavy rains throughout Vermont brought widespread damage to bridges, roads, and utility services. Coming on the heels of soaking rains during the last 10 days of May, rainfalls from May 31st into June 1st included 4 inches in Dorset, 4.23 inches in Cavendish, and an incredible 6.01 inches in Plymouth. Runoff from the rain was as deep as 4 feet on some streets in St. Johnsbury.
