On this date in 1903, the first rain in nearly 9 weeks fell, continuing for 4 days with about an inch of total rainfall. In many locations, including Burlington, no rain fell at all in the month of May. The dry weather sparked numerous forest fires in the Adirondacks, causing the sky to appear a brassy yellow from Burlington. In spite of the dry spring, the summer did go on to enjoy a normal amount of rainfall.
