A lengthy cold snap was underway on this date in 1937. Beginning with the 12th, and lasting through the 17th, thermometers fell into the teens, severely damaging vegetation in southern portions of Vermont and New Hampshire as a series of cold fronts brought occasional snow flurries and bitter northwest winds. The coldest morning was the 14th, when Burlington, VT fell to 22 degrees, while St. Johnsbury dipped to 17, the earliest date on the Fairbanks Museum records that it has been so cold.
