Today:
July is the time to say good-bye to the classic constellation Leo, the Lion. The bright star on Leo’s shoulder, Regulus, is close to due west at 9:30 PM EDT as it emerges from the twilight, settling lower as the twilight fades by 10 o’clock. Leo continues to settle lower each evening, and by late in the month, drops below the horizon.

Saturday:
Quite prominent in the south this evening, the Waxing Gibbous Moon will appear to be hitching a ride within the constellation Libra, Libra’s scales perhaps a little out of balance, since the constellation looks like it’s lying on it’s side. The Moon will set in the southwest at around 1:15 AM, with Libra not setting fully until around 2:40 AM.

Sunday:
The Moon again appears in the south this evening, but it has shifted away from Libra, and much closer to Scorpius. The Moon lies very close to a start with Scorpius, the star know alternatives as Fang, or Pi Scorpii. In fact the Moon will move directly in front of this star later tonight, the so-called occultation occurring at around 1:00 AM.
