The Passumpsic Valley was recovering from a flood on this date in 1866, which took out 4 bridges between Lyndonville and St. Johnsbury. But records from nearby Lancaster, NH and Lunenburg, VT indicate no excessive rains. It must have been the result of rain and melting snow that caused ice jams on the river. Otherwise, dry weather prevailed with low water at E.C. Garland’s mill in Lancaster, NH, and an excellent sugaring season reported by Hiram Cutting of Lunenburg, VT.
