One of the more famous weather events in early New England history transpired on this date in 1804. Known as the Snow Hurricane, perhaps the greatest early season snow in northwestern New England, dumped 2 to 3 feet of snow over the higher elevations of Vermont, New Hampshire, the Berkshires of Massachusetts, and 1 to 2 feet in eastern New York’s Catskills and Adirondacks. Hiram Cutting of Lunenburg, VT recorded 20 inches of snow in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, while press reports of 3 feet of snow came from the southern Green Mountains.
