Vermont experienced its first hurricane on historical records on this date in 1788. Tracking from New Jersey into Maine, its track across Vermont sent it from north of Bennington east northeast to near Springfield, then on into New Hampshire, causing severe forest damage, and killing one child in Dummerston, VT and a man in Plainfield, NH.
