Beware the “Blackberry Frost”. And just what is a blackberry frost? In some of those cold hollows which have earned their reputation, even early July is not exempt from frost. On this date in 1962, West Burke, VT dropped to 29 degrees! But the term blackberry frost seems to be connected to an observable cool spell almost every year near the 4th of July, akin to its more famous cousin the January Thaw…and like the thaw, there is no explanation.
