Tornadoes are rare across the region, especially in May, but fifteen years ago, in 2009, a small tornado briefly dropped out of a strong thunderstorm as it moved through the village of Washington, VT. Several buildings were damaged, and a barn was destroyed. Other damaging reports included trees closing roads near Middlebury, and one inch hail in Northfield, VT.
