According to David Ludlum’s “Vermont Weather Book”, Bennington was struck by hail on this date in 1950, with diameters of 1 to 2 inches. That in itself is noteworthy, but what makes it even more interesting is that the cores of the hailstones contained metallic nuclei, possibly originating from the coke plant in Troy, NY, south and west of Bennington.
