Going back thirty eight years ago on this date, in 1986, severe thunderstorms pounded the region with damaging winds and hail. North Hartland and Brookfield both reported 1 inch diameter hail, with 3/4 inch hail falling in Burlington. This same system progressed into Maine, where hail up to 4 inches in diameter fell, and in places accumulated to 6 inches on the ground. Record cold followed the front, Burlington tying its coldest June temperature ever at 33.
