By the last week of February, arctic blasts become less and less common as the sun gains in strength daily. However cold weather was relentless one century ago, during February of 1914. And the coldest weather waited until this date in 1914, when the mercury fell to -18 in Burlington, and barely recovered to the zero mark by afternoon. Farther east it was -33 in St. Johnsbury.
