Residents of Rutland who can recall the 1940s, will remember well what happened on this date in 1947. Three to 4 inches of rain fell from the 2nd into the 3rd, discharging so much water into the East Creek, that in Pittsford, a power dam failed, sending a wall of water into Rutland, estimated to be 10 to 15 feet in the lower part of the city. Several bridges were washed out including the trestle bridge for the Rutland Railroad.
