On this date in 1990, flood waters were raging through portions of northern Vermont. A line of thunderstorms from St. Albans to Fairfax, east-southeast to Worcester, Plainfield, and Wells River stalled, resulting in 3 to 6 inches of rain, most of it in less than 6 hours. Numerous evacuations were necessary, several portions of Rts 12 and 302 were washed out, and 5 counties were declared disaster areas.
