Today is the anniversary of the severe flooding from Tropical Storm Irene. Torrential rains of 4 to 8 inches fell in 24 hours. The ground was saturated from a summer of heavy rains, and the water rushed unrestrained through narrow ravines and valleys, resulting in the second greatest natural disaster in the state of Vermont, though in many places more devastating than the Great Flood of 1927.
