On this date in 1925, autumn was getting ahead of itself as scattered frost edged into the colder mountain valleys. Somerset, high in the southern Green Mountains dropped to 26. Most other areas were not so extreme, though I’m sure it felt more than a little chilly in Cavendish and Chelsea, where the mercury sank to 31. It was a sign of things to come, as October of 1925 saw two very early snowstorms.
