Today:
The bare sliver of a Crescent Moon will be lowering in the west as the evening twilight sets in. Just left of the Moon, between it and the feet of the Gemini Twins, will appear Venus, blazing in its bright yellow. The fading dusk will reveal Venus between 8:30 and 8:45, after which it will lower further toward the horizon, with the Moon barely higher to its upper right. Venus will set at around 10:55 PM, the Moon doing so right after.
Tuesday:
The Crescent Moon returns to the Gemini Twins this evening, with the dimming twilight making the Twins visible by around 9:30. This is similar to April but tonight the Moon appears under to arm of Pollux the leftmost of the Twins, although this might be difficult to discern with the glow of moonlight, as the Moon nestles in between Pollux and Castor.
Wednesday:
On this date in 1910, Halley’s Comet came closest to Earth, the Earth having passed through the comet’s tail the day before, an event that spawned any number of reactions, from taking “Comet Pills” to ward off the noxious vapors, to predictions of the end of the world. The dangers were greatly exaggerated, with no measurable effects.
