On this date in 1893 the first of three tropical storms to affect the region in an unusually busy season. This first storm raced from western tip of Long Island early in the day, and raced northeast to Berlin, NH by late in the day. The forward speed helped to maintain gusty winds through eastern Vermont, causing some damage to trees and a few buildings. At the same time this rapid movement limited rainfall – about an inch recorded in Northfield, VT.
