On this date in 1984 one of the heaviest snowfalls on record was coming to an end. Peru, VT set a state record for the greatest snowfall in 24 hours with 38 inches. St. Johnsbury’s total of 23.5 inches was the second deepest snowfall of the 20th century. Most of Vermont and New Hampshire received 16 to 30 inches, with the exception of the Champlain Valley, where only 8 inches fell in Burlington.
