We were in the midst of a very long siege of cold weather during the first week of February, 1961. Starting on January 10th, and continuing through February 9th, West Burke, VT’s thermometer dropped below zero, a solid 31 days in a row! Not surprisingly January was one of the coldest on record, but February showed a marked turn around, ending the month about a degree above average.
