The winter of 1912-13 was mild with little snow. Though most floods this time of year are enhanced by snow melt, a flood on this date in 1913 came after 3 days of soaking rains, including 3.72 inches in Woodstock and 4.40 inches in St. Johnsbury. Great damage reported to bridges and railroads. The highway bridge in White River Junction was destroyed as 3 million board-feet of logs were swept down the White River.
