In 1835, perhaps the coldest daylight of the 1800’s was howling in on strong northwest winds. A very uniform cold resulted, with temperatures only changing a few degrees during the day. Midday readings included -16 in Brattleboro, -17 in Randolph, VT and Hanover, NH. Even the New England coast was not spared as Boston fell to 11 below zero, while Montreal began and ended the day with temperatures hovering near 22 below zero.
