Bennington Battle Day is rather infamous for the role which weather played in an American victory. Heavy rains on this date inn 1777 delayed the beginning of the battle, which was enough time for re-enforcing militia coming from Manchester to swell the American ranks and result in a significant victory. They also delayed Hessian forces marching east from New York state, so that the American army was able to defeat the British forces, and then the re-enforcements separately.
